Developing New Technologies to Treat Parkinson’s Disease
University of California San Diego bioengineer Gert Cauwenberghs and his colleagues are working, with support from the National Science Foundation, to understand how brain circuitry controls how people move. Their goal is to develop new technologies to help patients with Parkinson's disease and other debilitating medical conditions. The research team has been conducting tests that are simpler and faster with a new wireless dry-contact 64-electrode electroencephalogram (EEG) cap. Outcomes of the research will contribute to the system-level understanding of human-machine interactions, and are leading to the development of a new generation of wireless brain and body activity sensors and adaptive prosthetics devices.
