Atlas is a high-mobility, humanoid robot from Boston Dynamics that is designed to negotiate outdoor, rough terrain. Atlas can walk bipedally leaving the upper limbs free to lift, carry, and manipulate the environment. Atlas is strong and coordinated enough to climb using hands and feet and to pick its way through congested spaces. Now, Marc Raibert, the founder of Boston Dynamics, shows Atlas being tested outside and walking through the woods on uneven ground. The robot still has to be tethered to a power source, but the researchers are working on a cordless model.
