Democratizing DNA Fingerprinting - Rapid, Portable Identification of Human Samples
Added Dec 1, 2017 | Rate View top rated
Researchers at the New York Genome Center have developed a rapid, inexpensive, and portable strategy to re-identify human DNA using the ‘MinION’ - the smallest DNA sequencer currently available. The MinION plugs into a laptop with a USB3.0 port. The researchers’ new strategy requires only about 60 minutes of preparation and 5-30 minutes of MinION sequencing, works with low input DNA, and enables familial searches using Direct-to-Consumer genomic reference datasets. The method can be implemented in fields such as forensics, the clinic, and cell line identification.
